The former Brazil and Barcelona defender has paid Neymar's father back the money he was given to help with his defence against a sexual assault charge. Ines Guardiola, Alves' attorney, told the French news agency AFP that Alves returned the money last week after he was released from prison on bail, as reported by ESPN.

Alves was found guilty of sexually assaulting a woman in a Barcelona nightclub in 2022 in February. The Brazil star was handed a four-and-a-half year prison sentence for his crime but left prison last week after he posted €1 million ($1.08m) bail payment as he awaits the result of his appeal. It had earlier been reported that Neymar Sr. was going to pay the full bond of €1 million but this claim was dismissed by the 59-year-old.

It has been reported that Alves' was able to pay the extravagant bail amount thanks to a Brazilian magazine, who struck a deal with the Brazilian in exchange for the rights to his life story. While out on bail, Alves has reportedly reconnected with his estranged wife, who left the Brazilian after his initial arrest. He was also seen throwing an extravagant party at his home the night of his release from prison.

It has been reported by El Pais, that the court proceedings have taken a chunk out of Alves' savings and he could be tempted to return to football if he wins his appeal.
